Lisa Singh was born in Hobart in 1972, educated at St Mary’s College, and Elizabeth College and holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honours degree from the University of Tasmania.  She has lived most of her life in Tasmania and is passionate about protecting Tasmania’s unique way of life and building a strong future for working families. Lisa’s vision is for a society that respects diversity and provides an opportunity for every person to achieve their potential.  

Lisa has always been a strong advocate for working people. Prior to her election to the Tasmanian parliament as a Labor Member for Denison in 2006, Lisa served the community through working in the union movement, the non-government sector and the public service.  She has also been actively involved in various community organisations, including the United Nations Association, Australian Republican Movement and as the former Director of the Tasmanian Working Women's Centre.

As a member of the Tasmanian parliament Lisa served on various parliamentary committees and served the people of Denison as a strong advocate for housing, public transport, cultural diversity and reform for the Hobart waterfront. 

In November 2008 Lisa became a Minister in the State Labor Government and introduced significant reforms in her portfolio areas of Workplace Relations and Corrections and Consumer Protection, as well as assisting the Premier on Climate Change. Lisa reformed workers compensation laws in Tasmania, established a unique whole of government asbestos policy, introduced reforms in the private rental market, introduced vendor disclosure and energy efficiency standards  for residential properties, and commenced a ten year reform plan for the Tasmanian corrections system. 

At the March 2010 Tasmanian state election Lisa was not returned to office. Since that time Lisa has been active establishing  a support organisation for asbestos sufferers in Tasmania.  She is the current CEO of Asbestos Free Tasmania Foundation. 

Lisa is the mother of two teenage boys and lives in Hobart in the Denison electorate.
